SENASA enables entomological unit to certify fresh fruit destined for the US
The Argentinian National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA) enabled its entomological unit at the Regional Pest Laboratory of RĆo Negro and NeuquĆ©n for the phytosanitary certification of fresh fruits destined for the United States.
The agency reported that the unit operates with technology that allows real-time analysis and a direct connection with the technical team at the SENASA Regional Pest Laboratory in Villa Regina, which speeds up the assessment of the sanitary status of the production.
Cherries, apples, and pears will benefit from the SENASA unit
Representatives of the Argentinian agency noted that the authorization optimizes the inspection process and phytosanitary certification at origin, allowing North Patagonian exporting companies to comply with the requirements of the US market.
The unit is part of the work agreement between the Argentinian and US sanitary agencies for the export of cherries, apples, and pears from the North Patagonian provinces.
The certification procedure includes verification at origin by Argentinian agents and inspectors from the US Department of Agricultureās Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, prior to the fruit's shipment.
The launch of the inspection site is the result of joint work between Argentinaās Fiscal and Customs Warehouse, the Committee of Producers and Exporters of Fresh Fruit to the United States, and the SENASA North Patagonia Regional Center.
The operation has been approved by USDA-APHIS.
