Suez Canal Authority confirms normal transit through the Red Sea despite regional tensions

In an announcement posted on the company’s website, Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, said transit through the passage is flowing normally in both directions, emphasizing the route remains operative 24/7, as usual.

On March 3, the canal recorded the passage of 56 vessels in both directions, with a total gross tonnage of 2.6 million tons: 24 vessels in the northbound convoy, totaling one million tons, and 32 vessels in the southbound convoy, totaling 1.6 million tons.

Rabiee pointed out that some major shipping companies’ decision to suspend transit through the canal remains a temporary measure, subject to the evolution of the security situation in the region.

He stressed that the canal authority is constantly communicating with clients and liners and coordinating joint actions to support global trade and guarantee the sustainability of supply chains.

During the first three days of March, 100 vessels have transited through the passage, with a total net tonnage of 3.8 million tons.
