Classic Fruit and Westside Produce announce merger
Long-running companies Classic Fruit and Westside Produce are merging their operations under the Classic Fruit label. The move is set to strengthen year-round melon supply by integrating offshore and domestic programs, both firms stated in a press release.
The companies have collaborated as a melon alliance for the past four years, combining production and distribution across regions. The newly announced merger formalizes that relationship into a single business structure.

Westside Produce, operating under its TRI label, dates back to the 1950s and focuses on cantaloupe and honeydew production in California and Arizona. Classic Fruit, which recently marked its 20th anniversary, ranks among the larger offshore melon shippers from Guatemala and expanded into domestic partnerships in 2017.
“By bringing together two organizations with shared values and a commitment to quality, we are strengthening our ability to deliver consistent supply, drive innovation, and create long-term value for our customers and partners,” said Westside Produce CEO Steve Patricio. “The Westside Produce family of employees and growers is incredibly optimistic about the future of the melon category as our merger with Classic Fruit will allow us to continue to evolve.”
Merger for efficiency
The companies stated that the merger combines decades of experience in farming, customer relationships, food safety programs, and sustainability initiatives. Leadership expects the integrated structure to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.
“This move isn’t just symbolic: it turns a cooperative relationship into a fully integrated business, which usually means faster decisions, lower costs, and a stronger competitive edge,” said Garrett Patricio, president of Westside Produce. “This union is important to our customers, growers, and employees as it creates year-round opportunities and continuity in the supply chain.”

Classic Fruit President Paul Raggio said the merger aligns the companies’ long-term strategies and expands opportunities within the melon category.
“We have a shared vision, so it makes this announcement an incredible opportunity for the commodity,” Raggio added. “Together, we are building a stronger future, and we are excited to bring everyone along for the journey.”
The companies said they plan to provide additional updates as integration progresses.
