Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 41 - 2012 (Oct. 12)

Avocados

In North America, sales of Mexican avocado in the U.S. continued to undergo price adjustments.

In Europe, a decrease in availability of Peruvian avocados led to strong sales in Spain. In the U.K., Peru and South Africa recorded price increases driven by improved fruit quality.

In Latin America, Chile reported slightly higher prices on the wholesale market.

Blueberries

In North America, increased air freight volumes led to price adjustments for Argentine supply in the U.S.

In Europe, prices rose for good quality Argentine lots in the Dutch market. In the U.K., low availability of volumes from Argentina were expected to mean a steady market for the upcoming week.

Easy Peelers

In North America, Chilean Murcotts maintained quick sales in the U.S.

In Europe, the Netherlands saw low supply volume from the Southern Hemisphere. Meanwhile, the first lots from the Spanish season entered the market. In Russia, Argentine imports were negatively impacted by poor conditions, benefiting supply from the Balkans.

Grapes

In North America, the market was supplied with domestic volumes with good demand in the U.S. market. High prices and quick sales of Autumn King grapes were reported on both coasts.

In Europe, lower Spanish volumes led to quick sales for Brazilian Festival grapes in the Netherlands, while Southern Hemisphere arrivals increased overall. In the U.K., high demand and low availability led to price increases for Spanish Crismson Seedless grapes. In Russia, the first arrivals from Peru began to complement Italian supply in Saint Petersburg.

Oranges

In Europe, the Dutch and Russian markets were dominated by South African imports.

In Latin America, cosmetic problems were reported for Chilean supply.

In Africa, South Africa generated better sales with limited volume.

In Asia, sales of South African oranges in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland were impacted by the fruit quality, leading to variability in prices.
