Argentine citrus growers prepare for possible drought

Citrus growers in Argentina are preparing for the possibility of a summer drought in growing regions, local news site AIM Digital quoted the president of the countryā€™s citrus federation, Elibio Calgaro, as saying.

Calgaro said that while there are government programs to protect crops, and the majority of citrus growers have experience in how to protect their plants, there is still a large number of smaller growers who are unprepared.

Furthermore, Calgaro said that length of time between planting and the first commercial harvest, some seven years, puts the citrus industry in a difficult spot when facing water shortages.
