Peru sets rules for importing U.S. kiwifruit plants

Peru is well known for its asparagus, avocados and citrus, but it is probably not the first country that comes to mind with the mention of kiwifruit. kiwifruit close-up 5

However, the country's fast-growing farming industry may warm to the crop now that the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) has established a protocol for importing kiwifruit plants from the United States, website Andina.com.pe reported.

After the service received interest in importing the plants, a study was initiated to set requirements, concluding that imports must include phytosanitary permits issued by Senasa prior to shipping from the U.S.

The plants will also have to be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspetion Service (APHIS).
