U.S. avocado imports up on Mexican and Colombian supplies

With 1,558 shipments received, week 33 brought a 16 percent uptick in U.S. avocado imports, representing a 6 percent increase year-on-year, Avobook reported

Mexico accounted for approximately two-thirds of the shipments, followed by Peru (19 percent), California (9 percent), and Colombia (6 percent). Mexico's volumes increased by 30 percent, while California’s and Peru’s dropped by around 10 percent. Colombia was this week’s dark horse, with a whopping shipment increase of 40 percent.

Price fluctuations varied by size—while size 60 experienced a 10 percent decline, sizes 70 and 84 remained stable. Changes no larger than three percent affected other large sizes and size 48, specifically.

The avocado landscape in Europe—week 33 

In week 33, Europe received a total of 929 avocado containers, less than one percent higher than last week, but four percent lower than the same time last year. Peru maintained an 81 percent market share, followed by Kenya and Tanzania (eight percent), Colombia (seven percent), and South Africa (four percent). 

The Port of Rotterdam reported a 17 percent rise in size 18, a six percent increase in size 24, and a 10 percent growth in small sizes. In Spain, avocado prices remained stable.

The big avocado players

In China, shipments for week 33 totaled 54, reflecting a 10 percent decrease from the previous week but remaining above 2024 levels. Prices for sizes 18 to 24 declined 34 percent, falling 59 percent below last year's levels.

Peru's shipments in week 32 totaled 932, down six percent from the prior week but up 48 percent compared to 2024. Europe received 60 percent of these shipments, the United States 16 percent, Chile 12 percent, and Asia nine percent, with the remaining three percent distributed among other destinations.
