Peru pumps up volume as US avocado shipments rise seven percent year-on-year
United States avocado imports climbed seven percent from the same period last year in week 9, intelligence firm Avobook notes in its latest report.
Mexico continued to dominate supply, accounting for 99 percent of the US market, while other origins reduced their share. Meanwhile, Peruvian exports surged by triple digits, while European volumes slipped.

The US received 1,606 avocado shipments in week 9, up two percent from the previous week.
Looking ahead to March, expectations point to a seasonal uptick in prices that could improve returns.

Europe recorded 753 shipments in week 9, down eight percent from the previous week but still 12 percent higher than the same period last year.
Supply into Europe remained more diversified than in the US, led by Spain, Israel, Colombia, and Peru. Rotterdam saw price declines of between eight and 12 percent across various sizes, as some origins gained share and others pulled back.

China doubled its arrivals to 64 shipments in week 9 and maintained stable prices, with no significant declines reported so far this year.
Peru posted the strongest growth among exporting origins. The country closed week 8 with 287 shipments, up 171 percent from the prior week and 58 percent year-on-year.
Of Peruās total volume, 68 percent is shipped to Europe, where it accounts for 11 percent of market share and is regaining prominence in regional supply, according to the release.
