Planasa brings its global berry offering and latest advances in genetics to Fruit Attraction
Planasa will once again be present at Fruit Attraction, taking place from 6 to 8 October in Madrid (Hall 9, stand 9F02), where the company will showcase some of the latest developments from its breeding programs, including new additions to its berry varietal range. This includes blackberry, with three new varieties recently launched onto the market.

The main new developments in this crop are Black Rainier and Black Iguazú, two thornless varieties that expand the options available to growers and stand out for their yield potential and fruit quality, making them well suited to the snacking category. They are joined by Black Yosemite, developed for growing conditions in Mexico, where it stands out for its earliness and shelf life.
Blueberry will continue to play a prominent role. Blue Madeira and Blue Maldiva have recently been recognized with the Superior Taste Award from the International Taste Institute for their sensory qualities. Blue Madeira stands out for its firmness, shelf life, and flavor profile, while Blue Maldiva combines large caliber, flavor, and yield potential. Alongside them, varieties such as Blue Malibú and Blue Manila are part of a program that continues to expand across markets including Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Mexico, Peru, China, and South Africa.

In raspberries, the program includes Pink Hudson, also recently recognized with the Superior Taste Award for its fruit quality; Adelita, which remains a reference for winter production; and Pink Loira, introduced last year and whose performance in areas such as Portugal is generating strong interest among growers and retailers.
The ABB raspberry breeding program will also be represented on the Planasa Group stand. Among ABB’s varieties is Malaika, a firm raspberry with an outstanding appearance and a shelf-life of around 14 days, making it well suited to the snacking category.
Strawberries will be represented, among others, by RedSayra, which consolidated its position as the most widely planted strawberry variety in Spain during the previous season, thanks to its earliness, productivity and sensory quality. Also featured will be Red Samantha, a seasonal strawberry focused on flavor, as well as several advanced selections showing promising results in northern Spain.
Planasa: Genetics adapted to each market
Planasa’s breeding programs start from the needs of growers, retailers, and consumers to develop varieties adapted to different growing conditions and markets around the world.

Yield, quality, flavor, caliber, firmness, shelf-life and ease of harvesting are among the parameters considered when developing materials with strong agronomic and commercial performance in each growing region.
Beyond berries
Planasa’s activities also extend to other crops, an area the company continues to develop as part of its diversification and innovation strategy.
During Fruit Attraction, the company will also have the opportunity to showcase the latest developments in other areas of its business, including endive, garlic, asparagus and avocado, joined now by sweetcorn following the recent acquisition of US-based IFSI by the group.
