Port of Callao and PortMiami sign agreement to strengthen maritime trade between Peru and the United States
Peru's Port of Callao and the United States' PortMiami signed a cooperation agreement to exchange information, experiences, and best practices on cargo operations, cruises, and port infrastructure, the American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AmCham Peru) reported.
The alliance will deepen the countries' logistical relationship and create new opportunities for maritime trade.
The 'Sister Ports Declaration' was signed by the National Port Authority (APN) and the Port of Miami-Dade, and includes the exchange of port statistics, market studies, information on infrastructure projects, and experiences related to cargo and cruise operations. Additionally, it provides for technical cooperation, educational visits, and the creation of specialized working groups.

Importance of the Port of Callao
AmCham Peru highlighted that the relationship takes on particular relevance due to the weight of the Port of Callao within Peruvian foreign trade.
The terminal concentrates nearly 68 percent of the country's exports and constitutes the main national logistical hub. Among the products leaving Callao for the United States are table grapes, avocados, and blueberries, among others.
Cooperation also occurs during a period of expansion of Callao's port infrastructure. This year began Stage 3B of the North Multipurpose Terminal, with an investment exceeding $350 million to modernize piers, dredge, and add new equipment.

In parallel, the South Pier projects are moving over two million TEUs in 2026.
The agreement with Miami adds to other port ties between the two countries. In 2024, the port of Paita established a relationship with Port Hueneme, in California, particularly focused on strengthening the connection of agricultural exports from northern Peru with the US West Coast.
