How Mission Produce is building the future of produce
By Mission Produce
When Mission Produce completed its acquisition of Calavo Growers earlier this year, it marked the coming together of two of the most established names in the avocado industry. The rationale behind the combination was straightforward: create a stronger, more diversified platform that could deliver greater value to customers, growers, partners, and shareholders.
A few months into the integration, that vision is already taking shape. Mission is now a $2 billion company on a pro forma basis, with a stronger avocado platform and a broader portfolio spanning mangos, tomatoes, papayas, and prepared foods. The combination of Mission's global distribution network and deep supply chain expertise with Calavo's long-standing grower relationships and sourcing footprint creates one of the largest, most integrated fresh produce supply chains in North America.

Mission is already moving fruit across the combined network– optimizing inventory positioning, better aligning supply with demand, and growing customer programs. As the company continues to integrate sourcing and distribution, the value of a more connected, efficient supply chain is coming into focus.
"This summer offered an early look at what a network of this scale can do,” John Pawlowski, President and CEO of Mission Produce, said. “With better visibility in the field, more options, and greater flexibility to pivot as markets shift, we’re already delivering more for our customers. I look forward to building on that as we enter our first full Mexico avocado season as one company."
Mission’s grower network is now deeper and broader across California and Mexico, the two largest avocado supply origins to the U.S. Mission’s presence in Mexico has grown to four packinghouses, including a new direct presence in Jalisco, which has grown as an increasingly important growing region for global markets. That expanded sourcing footprint gives Mission more ways to deliver a reliable, high-quality supply of avocados.

As Mission strengthens its avocado network, the category itself continues to attract new consumers. U.S. avocado consumption reached record levels in 2026, trending above 10 pounds per capita, with more households purchasing avocados than ever before, reinforcing the category's long-term growth trajectory.
Consumers increasingly prioritize fresh, nutrient-dense foods that fit modern lifestyles. Interest in healthy eating remains high, protein-forward diets continue to gain traction, and the growing adoption of GLP-1 medications is increasing attention on nutritious foods.3,4 Avocados deliver with the versatility, nutrient density, and healthy fats that appeal across meals and occasions.

"Avocados remain our core, but our distribution network was built to carry more. We're using it to bring customers a wider range of fresh produce and prepared foods, all held to the Mission standard for food safety and quality. We are especially excited about the prepared foods category, which enables us to expand on our global leadership position in the avocado supply chain. That makes us a more complete partner, and it puts more nutrient-dense products within reach of more consumers. A new era of fresh has begun,” added Pawlowski.
As the integration continues, Mission’s momentum is only building.
