Argentine producers take over govt offices

A group of Argentine producers has taken over the offices of the national Fruit Industry Department, calling for action to tackle the problems facing growers, website Rocadigital.com.ar reported.

The protesters, under the organisation known as 'The Federation', have sought urgent responses from national authorities, including legislators from the provinces of Rio Negro and Neuquén, with the aim of reaching the President's Office, the story reported.

The Federation is seeking aid measures from the Federal Government, claiming the response until now has been a band-aid solution.

The group cited several problems facing the industry including payment cuts, a lack of funds for pruning, uncertainty in the fight with frost damages, as well as poor settlements in the previous season, the story reported.
