U.S.: Fruits From Chile advertised in Times Square for the first time

Videos promoting Chilean fruits including table grapes and blueberries are being broadcast on the huge billboards of Manhattan’s Times Square for the first time.

From Feb. 20 until March 3 an advert created by the Chilean Fruit Exporters' Association (ASOEX) and ProChile will be shown in the popular tourist site.

The initiative is the first of its kind, aiming to promote Chilean products to New Yorkers by showing them their various uses in culinary recipes.

ASOEX assistant marketing manager Ignacio Caballero said the organization wanted to showcase the Fruits from Chile brand to the North American consumers on a large scale.

Caballero added that Times Square is one of the most visited places in the world, with more than 1.5 million people walking around the intersection every month.

North America is the leading destination of Chilean fruit exports, taking 35% of the 2.6 million metric tons (MT) of fruit exported in the 2016-17 season.

Caballero revealed that the idea was to show two videos, with the first showing a recipe using grapes along with the logo, inviting the pedestrians to follow them on social media, and the second to promote Chilean fruit as healthy and delicious.
