Australia keeps eye on fruit fly

Citrus growers in southeastern Australia are on the lookout for fruit flies after one was found, according to ABC in Australia.

Most of this year’s citrus crop has been sent to the U.S., but if more fruit flies are found, they could cause trouble for next year, Hugh Flett, CEO of the Murray Valley Citrus Board, is quoted as saying.

The Department of Primary Industries in Victoria is stepping up roadblocks and warnings to the public about bringing fruit into quarantined areas, the web site said.
