Site aims to help improve technical knowledge among businesses

Improving the competitiveness of Chilean agriculture and spreading innovation to growers are two goals for the Institute of Agricultural research in Chile, El Mercurio of Valparaiso reported on its website.

Technology transfers must be strengthened, said director William Donahue, according to the website.

For the Valparaiso region, that means the construction of the Transfer and Extension Center for Avocados, which will receive 500 million pesos in 2010-11, the website reported.

“In this transfer center, we will use all the tools of an extension: We are going to do training that will be in person, using information technology, we are going to do seminars, field demonstrations,” Donahue is quoted as saying. The goal “is to double the number of technology transfer groups that we had in the last period.”

The idea is to improve practices at medium and large businesses, but also address the problems of small producers.
