Brazilian market to open for Argentine citrus

Argentina's citrus industry will have more export options in 2012 after the Brazilian government decided to open its doors to the southern neighbor, website Unoentrerios.com.ar reported.

Argentina's Minister for Production Roberto Schunk and Minister for Agriculture Julián Domínguez recently travelled to Brazil to discuss the matter with officials.

"What was guaranteed to us was that there would be no obstacles for our growers in the first three months of next year, and that they could sell their products in that market," Schunk was quoted as saying.

"This is very important because it was indicated that there weren't  any sanitary reasons to prevent (the opening)."

He said the Brazilian Government recognized the problem was political and pledged that the market would open for Argentina.
