Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 21 — 2012 (May 25)

Apples

In North America, slower trading was registered for Royal Gala apples in the U.S., while a complex situation continued for Granny Smith apples with bitter pit incidence.

In Europe, apple markets remained stable in general, but problems with bitter pits in Granny Smiths continued.

In the Middle East, a sales slowdown was registered with price adjustments.

Avocados

In North America, small avocado sizes meant slow fruit movement regardless of suppliers.

In Latin America, prices were stable in Chile.

In Europe, U.K. sales rates were adequate for the level of Southern Hemisphere supply.

Easy Peelers

In Northern Europe and the U.K., favorable sales pace was reported for Southern Hemisphere satsumas and clementines.

In Asia, positive inventory rotation was seen with South African novas.

Kiwifruit

In North America, the U.S. market was put under pressure by Chilean kiwifruit supply.

In Latin America, good sales activity continued in Brazil while placements remained slow in Colombia.

In Europe, trading was somewhat slower.

In Asia, Chilean kiwifruit volumes continued to put pressure on Hong Kong and Chinese mainland markets.

Pears

In North America, moderate sales pace continued for pears in the U.S., while a lower fruit supply favored positive market development.

Pomegranates

In North America, favorable sales rates were seen for Chilean supply.

In Europe, good movement was seen for Chilean and Peruvian lots.

Table Grapes

In North America, Red Globe trading continued to go well in the U.S.

In Latin America, variable conditions were seen for Chilean Thompson S which led to price adjustments.

In Europe, the end of the Chilean season marked rising prices for Crimson S. Low volumes of Red Globes triggered favorable prices in both the U.K. and Russia.

In the Middle East, good trading rates continued for Red Globe grapes.

In Asia, a downward price trend was seen for grapes, with the exception of Red Globes which showed good sales.
