Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 44 – 2012 (Nov. 2)

Avocados

In North America, there was no market on the U.S. East Coast due to Hurricane Sandy. On the West Coast, Chile found an opening between the end of the Californian season and the Mexican season, which had quality problems.

In Europe, the last batches of Peruvian avocados were sold and Chile continued to grow, leading prices with a quality product.

Blueberries

In North America, the market was paralized on the U.S. East Coast by hurricane Sandy, putting pressure on the West Coast with rerouted shipments.

In Europe, the market was dominated by Argentine supply.

Grapes

In North America, the U.S. East Coast market was paralyzed by Hurricane Sandy, although some movement was seen in the South. The U.S. West Coast still had an active market and attractive prices for local Autumn Kings. In Mexico, the market was stable with U.S. fruit offering lower prices.

In Europe, the European Union had a low local supply but an active market. Brazil provided a large supply of white seedless grapes in the E.U. and U.K. as the European season came to an end. Brazil, however, had high prices and slow sales. Russia had an active market as buyers waited for grapes from Peru.

In Asia, the U.S. dominated the Chinese market with active sales but high variability in prices.
