IDEP export promotions technician Fernando Martorell told the website that last year's volume from the province could be exceeded.

"It [first flight] is forecast  for the week of the Sep. 23-26 - this comes from meetings that we held last week with all the airlines that will operate this year," Martorell was quoted as saying.

"The idea is to surpass the quantity of fruit exported last year," he said, mentioning that Tucuman blueberries were sent on 71 flights last season.

Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC) general manager Ines Peláez told the national export volume would be down 1% this year, with lower volumes of early season fruit due to frost impacts.
