Cuba seeks foreign investment for citrus field renewal

The Cuban Agriculture Ministry's fruit business division chief Emilio Farret has announced plans for a citrus field renovation project that will be open to foreign investment, Radio Habana Cuba reported.

The official said that with Cuba's own resources the plan would be able to encapsulate 6,000 hectares of the crop.

Farret told the press US$5,000 would be required per hectare of citrus, including investments in technical irrigation, inputs and the intensification of disease control.

He said Cuba had not yet seen serious damages caused by citrus greening disease, which has affected other important citrus-growing areas in the region.
