Chile: ANFACH calls for national customs worker strike

The National Association of Customs Officers of Chile (ANFACH) has called for an indefinite nationwide strike starting today (May 24) at 8am Chilean time.

In a press release, ANFACH claimed the action was in response to a failure from the Undersecretary of Finance to recognize protocols signed with the union on May 28, 2015 and Nov. 23, 2016.

The association is not pleased with the retroactivity provisions in a recent classification proposal put forth by the department.

"In a scandalous way this proposal from the Government favors the interests of the officials closest to the highest levels of management in the service, substantially demeaning those who have been waiting for years and who have prepared to opt for better conditions and greater work stability but haven't been favored with high [pay] grades," ANFACH said.

"The Government proposal buries the civil service career."
