U.S.: Henry Avocado opens first East Coast cold storage facility

California-based Henry Avocado has opened a new 25,000-square-foot cold storage facility in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The company is a year-round marketer and distributor of avocados sourced from California, Mexico, Peru and Chile.

The Charlotte facility includes forced air rooms, cooler storage space, loading docks and a mechanical equipment room, according to A M King, the design-build firm that completed the conversion project for Henry Avocado, local media report.

Henry Avocado's new facility has the ability to distribute about 300,000 avocados daily, with storage capacity for an additional 1 million avocados, the Charlotte Business Journal reported.

The estimated value of the project and specific hiring projections for the Charlotte facility were reportedly not disclosed.

The company, which was founded in 1925, today operates distribution centers in California, Arizona and Texas.
