Mission Produce projects surge in avocado demand for holidays and winter

Global fresh produce leader, Mission Produce, projects higher avocado demand through the holidays and winter this year, driven by lower retail prices, increased US volume, and promotable supplies from Mexico.

In October, US avocado volume rose 9 percent year over year, with sales supported by prices nearly 20 percent lower, averaging 99 cents at retail. It expects that the increased volume and lower prices will fuel demand during key avocado-eating holidays.

The company reports that Mexico’s current harvest will offer promotable volumes in all sizes, allowing retailers and foodservice buyers to plan for strong quality and consistent availability ahead of the holidays.

Mission also stated in a press release that it is working with partners to support peak demand periods and deliver ripe fruit, since “most purchases of the fruit happen the day before or the day of these seasonal eating occasions, so offering ripe-and-ready fruit is essential to capturing those sales,” Galen Johnson, Senior Director of Sales at Mission Produce, said.

“As shoppers plan for seasonal meals and get-togethers, timing and execution at retail are key,” Johnson said. “Our ripening network is built for these moments—delivering the volume, consistency, and ripeness needed to win during high-traffic weeks.”
