Projections up: Super Bowl avocado imports to top 300M pounds
The United States is on pace to import about 300 million pounds of fresh avocados leading up to this Sunday’s Super Bowl, according to Avocados From Mexico (AFM). This marks the highest pre–Big Game volume on record.
The total stands about 20 percent above the historical average for the period and roughly 20 million pounds over earlier projections, the organization notes.

“This achievement reflects the seamless collaboration of growers, packers, importers, and customers working together to meet unprecedented demand,” says AFM CEO Alvaro Luque. “The US avocado market continues to grow, and this momentum reinforces the strength, resilience, and long-term potential of our shared industry”.
The Super Bowl clock is ticking, demand is ripening

AFM attributes the surge to long-term growth in US avocado consumption and expanded marketing tied to major gathering occasions.
About ten years ago, importing roughly 160 million pounds of avocados in the month ahead of the Super Bowl was a strong result for the industry, said the organization. Since then, younger US consumers have more than doubled their avocado consumption, helping fuel sustained demand.
“Delivering 300 million pounds of avocados to our partners and consumers in just four weeks is a remarkable milestone and a testament to what is possible when an entire binational supply chain moves with purpose and precision,” Luque adds.
Retailers can expect continued Super Bowl–themed promotions through Sunday, including branded bins and bagged programs featuring the current campaign imagery. According to AFM, displays emphasize bags of size 60 avocados and bulk bins of larger size 48 fruit, supported by favorable growing conditions in Mexico.
In parallel with retail promotions, AFM has rolled out a digital content campaign built around 32 guacamole recipes inspired by local cuisines from each professional football market. The organization says the effort aims to encourage at-home celebrations and reinforce avocados’ role as a staple for shared occasions during the Big Game period.
