Asia and the Middle East: Two “very attractive” markets for Michoacán mangoes
by Francisco Seva Rivadulla, International Agri-Food Journalist
Michoacán mangoes continue to diversify their export markets. In addition to the United States, the fruit’s largest destination, the Mexican state’s mango industry continues to set its aim for other attractive markets, such as Asia and the Middle East.
Ramiro Serrato, Director of the III International Mango Forum, explains that this diversification strategy is part of the long-term plan for the state's mangoes and complementary to its current portfolio.
"Michoacán mangoes have great quality, a magnificent flavor, and a high level of food safety,” Serrato said. “It would be very enriching if our mangoes had an authentic quality seal or brand, since with this initiative we could better position ourselves in new export markets."

The executive emphasized the crucial role of market expansion for the local mango industry.
"It is very important that our mango exports continue to grow in the United States and Europe, which are two enormously interesting markets for Michoacán," he said. "Producers are also interested in consolidating their presence in other markets with consumption potential, such as Russia and Canada."
The head of the III International Mango Forum also pointed out that the regional mango industry faces a clear future challenge: operating more efficiently.
“This is very important to obtain more profitability and competitiveness in our exports to the markets mentioned above," he said.
