March 17 , 2026
The Michigan Apple Committee (MAC) has elected a new executive committee and confirmed board appointments that will take effect April 1, 2026, as leadership transitions within one of the Midwestās key apple-producing states.
On March 5, the board elected Kim Kropf as chair, Eric Roossinck as vice chair, and Chris Alpers as a third member of the executive committee. The changes come as the current chair, Mike Dietrich, concludes his final term on March 31.
Separately, Gretchen Whitmer appointed James Engelsma, Gregory Kugel, and Eric Roossinck to the MAC board of directors, with terms running through April 1, 2029.
Engelsma joins the board for his first term, succeeding Dietrich. Kugel begins his second term, while Roossinck will serve his third and final term.
āOn behalf of the MAC board and staff, we are so grateful for Mikeās leadership, as well as his dedication and service to the Michigan Apple industry,ā said Diane Smith, Executive Director of MAC.

Engelsma, based in Grand Rapids, owns Engelsmaās Orchard and works as a location manager at Nutrien Ag Solutions, representing District 2. Kugel, of Niles, serves as chief executive officer of Kugel Farms and represents District 1. Roossinck, of Fremont, is chief executive officer and chief financial officer of Roossinck Fruit Storage and Orchards, representing District 3.
āThe Michigan Apple Committee appreciates Greg and Ericās dedication and time spent on the board,ā said Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee. āWe are grateful for their continued service and are excited to welcome Jim as our newest board member.ā
The seven-member MAC board consists of Michigan apple growers appointed by the governor to represent five regions across the state. Members serve three-year terms and may serve up to three terms.
The committee operates as a grower-funded nonprofit focused on marketing, research, and education to support demand for Michigan apples in domestic and export markets.
