Chilean avocado production scores another 10 percent uptick
The Chilean avocado industry is on a roll. Following a 10 percent production uptick announced in early June, local industry body Paltas de Chile is now projecting yields at 285,000 tons for the 2026/27 cycle. If realized, the forecast puts the upcoming harvest up by another 10 percent and at a 17-year high.
The guild association attributed the outcome to improved productivity, technological integration, and refined agronomic management across orchards.

Paltas de Chile Executive President Francisco Contardo-Sfeir noted that this production jump comes despite a slightly declining planted area.
“Projecting 285,000 metric tons is excellent news and confirms our sector’s ability to produce more efficiently and sustainably,” he said.
A strong domestic consumer base for Chilean avocados
The Andean country’s appetite for home-grown avocados remains one of the highest in the world. In 2025, per-capita avocado consumption in Chile hit a record 19.6 lbs. per person, cementing the nation as the second-largest consumer of Hass avocados globally, only behind Mexico.
“[The uptick] is also great news for our domestic market, which absorbs a major portion of what we grow. Avocados are deeply rooted in Chilean diet and culture, giving us a strong domestic foundation that coexists alongside our growing global footprint,” noted Contardo-Sfeir.

At the same time, the sector has continued to expand its international presence. Chilean avocados are currently exported to roughly 40 destinations, with Europe as the country’s primary export partner. The continent is followed by expanding regional trade within Latin America (particularly Argentina) as well as ongoing commercial opportunities in North America and Asia.
“We are seeing robust demand both domestically and internationally,” the executive said. “Our challenge is to capitalize on this momentum, further consolidate our core markets, open new commercial doors, and maintain the quality and sustainability standards that define Chilean avocados.”
The production gains align with the long-term sustainability roadmap spearheaded by Paltas de Chile. The initiative outlines industry-wide targets for water management, energy efficiency, community engagement, and good agricultural practices.
