Honduran banana exports to reach US$380M in 2011

High global prices could push up Honduran banana exports by more than 13% this year to US$380 million, an industry source has told newspaper El Heraldo.

A Standard Fruit Company representative told the newspaper there were high expectations for export values in 2011, with volumes predicted to be the same as in 2010.

The Honduran Central Bank reported banana shipments of 7,961,200 cartons worth US$120.7 million in the first four months of the year, the story reported. This compares to 8,384,800 cartons worth US$98.3 million during the same period in 2010.

El Heraldo reported the international price has risen from US$11.73 to US$15.16 per carton.
