Mexican fruit and edible nut exports to Canada showed a 13.8% year-on-year rise in 2011 according to Statistics Canada figures, website Milenio.com reported.

Avocados recorded a 41% export rise followed by blackberries, blueberries and raspberries posting a 19% increase, tomatoes achieved a 5.5% while fresh peppers showed a 0.6% year-on-year decrease.

Prepared vegetables and fruits showed a 56% year-on-year increase while beverages and vinegars recorded a 15% decrease and cocoa and cocoa prepared products dipped slightly by 1.5%.

Agri-food exports showed an 8.9% year-on-year rise and a 35% year-on-year rise in value reaching US$303 million for 2011.

However, Canadian agri-food exports to Mexico grew 27% in 2011.

Mexican companies will be participating in the country's largest food produce trade fare, SIAL Canada, in Montreal, which starts tomorrow and continues until Friday, May 11.
