Brazilian port undergoes renovation

Paranaguá's port authority (APPA) has hired Brazilian company VMI Sistemas de Segurança LTDA to manage the cargo inspection operations, including a container scanner system.
The contract provides for plant infrastructure, electrical and logistical development, and an operating line for authorized personnel.
APPA superintendent Luiz Henrique Dividino added that the new system will include advanced image scanning and include technical support from federal police.
State governor Beto Richa praised the project for its efforts to improve port security.
"With the beginning of operations of this system in the Port of Paranaguá, we will be improving the security of our borders, as we have already done for our land-locked borders in the western part of Paraná," Richa said in the Brazilian publication.
The service contract is set to last 60 months, with the possibility of extension.
