The Christmas speciality grapes include varieties Sweet Mayabelle, Sweet Sapphire and Sweet Globe, all of which have been imported from Brazil especially to pair with various cheeses on sale for the holidays.

Available until the end of the month, the three different colored grapes retail at £5 (US$7.86) for a 750-gram pack, and are on shelves alongside the U.S.-grown Cotton Candy grape which has also been reintroduced by Waitrose for the festive season.

Waitrose table grape buyer Greg Sehringer said sales of grapes were currently up by a fifth as the nation got into the Christmas spirit.

"Earlier this year Waitrose brought in the new Cotton Candy grape. With a strong hint of candy floss, this grape was the most asked for fruit in 2014 and we are stocking again, exclusively in Waitrose until Christmas," he said in a release.
