Cameroonian banana company Plantation du Haut Penja (PHP) is reportedly expecting an increase in production this year, with a land expansion plan now underway. banana_87251656 - small

Website Camerpost.com reported the subsidiary of France-based Compagnie Fruitière anticipated an output of 170,000 metric tons (MT) in 2015, putting it 13,000MT higher year-on-year.

PHP is one of the African country's largest banana growers, with local media claiming the organization last year accounted for 45% of national production.

The entity currently operates 3,000 hectares of production land in the coastal region of Moungo, and last July announced an 800-hectare expansion plan further south in the country.

Camerpost.com reported PHP officials had said the expansion would take place in phases, with the first phase that covers 52 hectares having already begun.
