Trump signs agriculture-heavy bill as farm groups applaud funding boost

The just-signed-by-Trump One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBA)’s first lines focus on agriculture, nutrition and forestry.

Although the nearly 900-page bill has proven controversial, agricultural associations and companies have praised the bill for restructuring and increasing funding for programs they’ve long advocated.

USApple President and CEO Jim Blair called the passage a win for apple growers and thanked Glenn Thompson, John Boozman and their teams for "prioritizing critical investments in specialty crops."

"USApple and our specialty crop allies advocated tirelessly for key programs, including research and export promotion efforts, which received increased funding," Blair said."USApple also supported tax provisions such as estate tax relief and bonus depreciation.”

President and CEO of the American Seed Trade Association, Andy LaVigne, said the Bill provides critical support for America’s farmers and ranchers, especially "important provisions such as updates to the farm Safety Net, extends the 45Z credit for clean fuel production, and makes long-term investments in conservation."

However, she clarified that "there is still important work to be addressed in agricultural research, conservation, and other regulatory reforms, and we urge members of Congress to continue this forward momentum to address critical remaining regulatory and programmatic updates."

The National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, the American Farm Bureau, NABC and others have praised the bill’s highlighting of growers' needs.
