Australian-bred apples make their debut in the U.S.

International fresh produce exporter WA Farm Direct is bringing an Australian-bred apple to the U.S. for the first time.

Developed in Western Australia and marketed under the Soluna brand, the ANABP 01 variety is revered by consumers for its deep burgundy skin, sweet flavor, and extended shelf life. The company says the expansion into the American market follows a positive response trend in both Asia and the Middle East.

The U.S. launch of Soluna apples is supported by close collaboration with the leading international fresh produce marketing company, Oppy, which will be responsible for distribution and ramping up sales to U.S. retailers in 2026.

"We're proud to partner with WA Farm Direct to bring our retail partners a standout offering—one that’s sure to excite shoppers, who will quickly discover it eats even better than it looks,” says Piers Hanbury, Oppy's executive director of apples, pears, and category development.

Sean Engelbrecht, WA Farm Direct commercialization manager, called the U.S. market "a sophisticated and competitive produce landscape," in which the Aussie variety will thrive.

“We look forward to building strong partnerships in this exciting new chapter,” Engelbrecht added.
