Australian avocado sector poised for record 2026 crop
The Australian avocado industry is headed for a plentiful harvest this year. Production is forecast to hit a record 170,000 metric tons as younger orchards reach their full potential, according to Rabobank’s Global Avocado Update 2026.
The rebound follows a 15 percent production decline in the 2024/25 season, which the assessment attributes to the crop’s natural biennial bearing cycle.

Queensland remains Australia’s largest avocado-producing region, accounting for about half of national output. Western Australia ranks second, contributing another 20 to 30 percent, with Pemberton and Manjimup leading production in the region.
In addition to new acreage, favorable growing conditions in both areas in early 2026 are set to support strong harvests.
Australian avocado markets
Despite 2024/25’s reduced output, Australian avocado exports reached a record 18,400 metric tons in 2025.
“Asia remains a core destination, led by established markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia, and with some emerging markets across other Southeast Asian economies and the Middle East,” the report notes of the country’s export landscape.

Average export prices remained relatively stable, ranging from $3.70 to $3.73 (AU$5.20 to AU$5.24) per 2.2 lbs. from 2024 through early 2026.
Australian growers presently face less competition from New Zealand in the domestic market. Five years ago, the neighboring country sent more than two-thirds of its avocado exports to Australia but has now increasingly shifted its export focus toward Asian markets, including China, South Korea, and India.
Despite the potential for price pressure from greater availability, Rabobank maintains an encouraging medium-term outlook, provided that the Australian avocado industry addresses its key challenges.
“The region’s growth remains positive but increasingly depends on continued efforts to build export markets and improve supply chain efficiency,” the assessment reads.
