GLC Cerritos launches fair trade dental clinic to support field workers

GLC Cerritos today announced the launch of its Fair Trade USA premium-funded Dental Clinic, a new initiative developed with funds raised through the company’s 2025/26 Fair Trade Program. The GLC Cerritos Fair Trade Committee selected the project to address a critical gap in access to dental care for field workers, who will now receive dental assessments and treatments at the University of Guadalajara’s South Center dental clinic.

As of August 22, 2026, 175 field workers have received dental assessments through the program. In the coming weeks, these workers will continue with follow-up appointments tailored to their individual care plans, ensuring that treatment needs identified during the initial assessments are fully addressed.

About GLC Cerritos's Fair Trade Program

GLC Cerritos’s Fair Trade Program is aligned with the mission of Fair Trade USA, a nonprofit organization and leading third-party certifier of Fair Trade Products in North America. Founded in 1998, Fair Trade USA works to eliminate poverty and enable sustainable development for farmers, workers, and their communities around the world, with the goal of ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and community investment for the people behind global supply chains.

The Fair Trade programs add less than two cents to the consumer cost of an avocado. This money is allocated to a fund managed by the farmworker-led Fair Trade Committee.  GLC’s Fair Trade doubled in size last season. This season, they project to double Fair Trade availability again.

A cornerstone of the Fair Trade model is the Community Development Fund, through which a portion of proceeds from Fair Trade Certified products is returned directly to workers and their communities to invest in projects of their choosing. These funds are commonly directed toward education, food access, infrastructure, and medical care. GLC Cerritos’s Fair Trade Dental Clinic reflects this model in action, channeling funds raised in 2025-2026 into a direct, lasting health benefit for the field workers the program supports.

Looking ahead

GLC Cerritos plans to continue expanding access to dental care through the clinic in the months ahead, with additional assessment days planned and follow-up treatment underway for the workers already screened. The company views the clinic as a model for how Fair Trade funding can be used to meet the practical, everyday needs of the workers who support its supply chain.
