Peru continues to lead global Hass avocado exports during the first half of 2026

Hass avocado, one of the biggest stars in Peru’s ag-export portfolio, reached 505,377 metric tons in the first half of 2026, according to data by the country’s Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI). 

The six percent year-on-year uptick positions the Latin American country as the world's second-largest exporter of the fruit, trailing only behind Mexico.

Peru, an export giant

This milestone is underpinned by Peru’s continuous work toward expanding market access for Hass avocados and other important categories, such as blueberries and table grapes. 

Currently, Peruvian avocados have access to 70 open markets worldwide, having unlocked important destinations in the past six years, including South Korea, Thailand, Colombia, Mexico, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Meanwhile, the country’s National Agrarian Health Services (SENASA, for its initials in Spanish) is working to open markets in Vietnam, Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia.

The opening of new markets also represents an opportunity to boost the participation of small producers, mainly from Andean areas such as Ayacucho, Lima, Huancavelica, Apurímac, Cusco, and Áncash. 

“The incorporation of small producers into international trade not only strengthens the rural economy, but also demonstrates the positive impact of joint work between the State and farmers,” said Vilma Gutarra, head of SENASA, in a statement.

The 'green gold' streak

During the 2025 campaign, “Peruvian green gold” exports reached 771,201 metric tons exported, with 63 percent of shipments bound for the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States.

In South America, exports to Chile stand out, as a neighboring country remains a strategic commercial partner.
