Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 30 — 2011 (Jul. 29)

Apples

In North America, good sales pace was registered for Royal Gala apples in the U.S. but with low availability.

In Latin America, price increases were registered for the Royal Gala variety in Mexico, while volumes were scarce in Brazil and Colombia.

In Europe, moderate activity was seen for imported apples, while trading was active in Russia.

In the Middle East, sales pace improved in Saudi Arabia, while a lower level of arrivals led to price increases in the region.

In Asia, Taiwanese importers were concerned by increasing Fuji apple arrivals.

Avocadoes

In North America, the first Peruvian Hass arrivals were expected during week 31 (Aug. 5).

In Latin America, prices fell in Chile as volumes from the 2011-12 started to increase on the domestic market.

In Europe, a healthy sales pace and slight wholesale price rises were reported.

Easy Peelers

In North America, opening prices close to US$15/10kg were registered for Peruvian Minneolas in the U.S.

In Northern Europe and Russia, moderate inventory rotation was reported due to summer vacations and competition with seasonal fruit.

In the Middle East, stable markets were registered for Southern Hemisphere volumes.

In Asia, good sales activity was observed for Southern Hemisphere Novas in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

Kiwifruit

In Latin America, the first peak of arrivals was registered for Chilean Hayward kiwifruit in Mexico, while the variety was starting to establish itself in the Argentine market.

In Europe, stable trading and sufficient volumes for domestic consumption were reported.

In the Middle East, no significant changes were reported.

In Asia, sales activity improved slightly in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

Lemons

In North America, moderate activity was registered for Southern Hemisphere supply in Canada, while good sales activity was seen for Chilean lemons on the U.S. East Coast.

In Europe, price adjustments were reported for imported lemons in Northern Europe while slight price rises were seen in Mediterranean countries. No significant changes were registered in the U.K. while high arrivals continued to put pressure on the Russian market, but no price changes were reported.

In the Middle East, good market activity continued but high arrival volumes led to price adjustments.

Oranges

In North America, Chilean Navel oranges registered good sales activity in the U.S., but moderate sales pace was reported for smaller sized fruit.

In Europe, seasonal fresh fruit supply was affecting citrus trading in general.

In the Middle East, prices continued to fall for South African Navel oranges.
