Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 16 – 2013 (April 19)

Apples

In North America, the U.S. market was strong for the Chilean supply and prices remain unchanged.

In Europe, imported apple sales were still slow but improving in activity. Stable prices were reported for all varieties. In the U.K., the presence of imported Royal Galas was increasing. The first arrivals from New Zealand were expected during the week. In Russia, slow sales were reported for Argentine Red Delicious and Royal Gala apples, but prices remained stable.

In Asia, increased activity was noted this week.

In Latin America, agile sales were recorded in Colombia for Royal Galas, while Granny Smiths had more difficulty. In Brazil, price adjustments were recorded for Chilean Red Delicious apples.

In North America, the U.S. market was served by local citrus.

In Europe, there was a transition to imported supply. Satsumas from Argentina began their season with timid sales. In the U.K., sales were reported for Argentine Satsumas but the fruit had not yet succeeded in establishing a market. In Russia, some sales were reported for Satsumas from Argentina.

In Asia, the U.S. offer dominated the market, mostly with Navel oranges and Valencias.

Grapes

In North America, U.S. prices were stable and highly variable according to condition.

In Europe, irregularity in arrivals from Chile created mistrust with importers, several of which had opted for the Indian offer. In the U.K., condition issues were reported for White Seedless grapes. In Russia, there was a stable market without price changes.

In Asia, the markets were active and dominated by the Chilean supply. The Peruvian season had finished.

In Latin America, good sales activity was reported in Colombia and Brazil for Chilean Red Globes, while Crimsons were more complicated in the latter market.

Kiwifruit

In North America, the market was active with low volumes from Italy and Chile. Prices remained unchanged.

In Europe, the Southern Hemisphere's season had not yet begun. Chilean arrivals were limited and insufficient to establish a market.

In Asia, the Chilean season had not yet begun.

In Latin America, Chilean kiwifruit registered price adjustments in Colombia. In Brazil, the market was supplied by the local and Italian offers. Chilean arrivals remained low.

Pears

In North America, the U.S. had an active market without price variation for the Williams variety. Asian pears showed price adjustments depending on the variety.

In Europe, sales for imported fruit maintained good activity on the continent and in the U.K. Prices remained unchanged. In Russia, Argentine Williams were being sold with difficulty.

In Latin America, there was an active market for Packham's pears in Colombia. In Brazil, sales for Williams pears kept a moderate pace.
