India: Bollywood star may become face of Maharashtra horticulture
Indian Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan is in line to becoming an ambassador for fruit from the state of Maharashtra, local press outlets have reported.
Website Dnaindia.com reported the actor previously promoted tourism for the state of Gujarat when current Prime Minister Narendra Modi was its Chief Minister.
The story highlighted Maharashtra was not just home to India's biggest film industry, but was also the country's largest fruit-producing state.
Maharashtra's Horticulture Minister Jitendra Awhad reportedly told journalists he had met with Bachchan about the project, and the actor had accepted the request to promote horticulture.
Website Thehindu.com reported comments from Awhad that showed the vision was not just local.
"Maharashtra has always at the forefront in producing fruits. We need branding to promote them on a global platform. Amitabh Bachchan is the best person for it," Ahwad was quoted as saying.
