Equifruit celebrates National Banana Split Day 2025 with a sweet and impactful recipe

In celebration of National Banana Split Day (August 25), North America’s leading Fairtrade-certified banana importer Equifruit wants to make sure sundaes don't just taste good, but they do some good, too.

The company has whipped up a next-level banana split recipe that combines serious sugary indulgence with positive social impact, using their signature Equifruit Fairtrade bananas.

ā€œMy kids love a banana splitā€, says Kim Chackal, Co-owner and VP of Marketing and Sales at Equifruit. ā€œAnd I love knowing that every time I reach for an Equifruit Fairtrade banana to make their dessert, I’m supporting fair pay for banana farmers. Choosing Fairtrade isn’t just a feel-good moment, it’s a must.ā€

Since 2006, Equifruit has been on a mission to right the wrongs of the banana industry with a 100% Fairtrade commitment. Under the Fairtrade Standards, banana farmers are paid a minimum price for their fruit, set independently by Fairtrade International.

In addition, for every case of bananas sold, Equifruit pays $1 in Fairtrade Premium directly to grower communities. They decide how they spend it—whether it’s schools, healthcare, clean water, climate resilience, or other community investments. To date, Equifruit has paid over $4.7 million to banana producers

Equifruit’s ultimate Fairtrade banana split recipe

  • One perfectly ripe Equifruit banana, sliced in half (lengthwise, obviously)
  • Whipped cream
  • A generous drizzle of chocolate sauce
  • Sprinkles (the more, the better!)
  • GlacĆ© cherries for that classic finish
