Avocado volumes dip early as US imports stay ahead of last year

Green gold imports to the United States rang in the new year with slightly lighter avocado volumes but remained well ahead of last year. This, intelligence firm Avobook notes in its week 2 report, signals an early-season recalibration rather than a slowdown

In week 1, the US received 1,154 containers, down four percent from the final week of 2025 but 25 percent higher than the same week a year earlier.

Mexico dominated the US supply with nearly 98 percent of total arrivals. Colombia and Chile accounted for the remaining share.

Across Europe, volumes eased but stayed within a historically steady range.

Week 2 closed with 548 shipments, a four percent decline from the previous week, yet still seven percent higher year-on-year. Weekly arrivals continued to hover between roughly 550 and 600 containers.

Israel led the European market share at 31 percent, followed by Colombia with 27 percent. Spain accounted for 18 percent, Chile for 17 percent, and Morocco supplied the remaining six percent, reflecting a diversified origin mix early in the season.

Chilean exports also pulled back from late-2025 levels. In week 1 of 2026, Chile shipped an estimated 125 containers, nearly 25 percent fewer than the final week of last year, but still four percent higher than the comparable week in 2025.

Europe remained Chile’s primary destination, absorbing 44 percent of shipments. Latin America followed with 31 percent, as Asia took 23 percent, and the United States accounted for just two percent, highlighting Chile’s limited early-season presence in the US market.

China showed the sharpest contraction. The market received 17 containers in week 2, all sourced from Chile. That total marked a 19 percent drop from the prior week and stood 66 percent below the same period last year. Peru has now logged four consecutive weeks without shipments to China.
