Japan will continue importing Peruvian Hass avocado this season
Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) authorized Peruvian Hass avocado imports for the 2026 season. The approval was formalized through a phytosanitary audit conducted by the Asian agency in the Latin American country.

In a LinkedIn post, the Association of Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters of Peru (ProHass) reported that between March 23 and 27, a Japanese Government representative visited and assessed the country’s avocado production fields and packing plants to verify compliance with the requirements demanded by that market.
As a result, the Asian country greenlit the shipment of the fruit for this season, further consolidating Peru's position as a premium exporter on the global stage. The sector celebrated the achievement and emphasized the coordinated work between the public and private spheres. ProHass also praised producers from the La Libertad region, who participated in the inspection process.
Peru continues to strengthen its position in demanding international markets, backed by strong production and compliance with stringent sanitary standards.

The ever-growing production power of Peruvian Hass avocados
The opening of the Japanese market was announced after ProHass reported that the 2026 Peruvian Hass avocado season would conclude with exports exceeding 765 thousand metric tons (MT). The figure represents a six percent increase compared to the 723 thousand MT exported in 2025.
The industry body explained that the incredible 38 percent growth registered in 2025 would not happen again this year due to agro-climatic factors and the natural behavior of the crop's productive alternation following an "ON" year.
