Peru’s blueberry industry continued its strong expansion in the 2025/2026 season, with total fresh exports reaching 380 thousand tonnes, marking a 21.5 percent increase compared to the 313 thousand tonnes shipped during the previous campaign. While early expectations pointed toward a 400-million-kilo season, the final result still reflects robust growth and consolidates Peru’s position as a dominant global supplier.

According to industry insights shared by Fernando Cillóniz Benavides of Inform@cción, the campaign followed Peru’s now-established pattern of year-round supply, with shipments peaking sharply in the fourth quarter. October remained the high point of the season, reaching 90.8 million kilos, followed by strong volumes in September (75.7 million kilos) and November (66.2 million kilos). This concentrated export window continues to define Peru’s influence on global blueberry markets, particularly during Northern Hemisphere off-season periods.

Regionally, La Libertad maintained its position as the backbone of Peru’s blueberry sector, exporting 189.7 million kilos, up 17.5 percent year-over-year, and accounting for nearly 50 percent of total shipments. The region’s scale and consistency continue to underpin national export performance.

However, growth was increasingly driven by other regions. Lambayeque recorded exports of 89.5 million kilos, rising 27.7 percent, while Ica stood out with the fastest growth rate among major producing regions. Shipments from Ica reached 50.4 million kilos, a sharp 47.9 percent increase compared to the previous season. This expansion reflects significant recent plantings, suggesting that Ica will play an even more prominent role in the coming years. Meanwhile, Áncash contributed 21.8 million kilos, posting a 20.2 percent increase.

The evolving regional mix highlights a gradual diversification of Peru’s production base, even as La Libertad remains dominant. Continued investment in new plantings, particularly in Ica, points to sustained volume growth ahead.

Looking forward, early expectations for the 2026/2027 campaign remain positive, with projections indicating further expansion in export volumes. However, weather remains a key variable, and any El Niño event could pose risks to production and export performance.

As Peru continues to scale, the combination of consistent supply, expanding acreage, and improving regional diversification is reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of the global blueberry trade.
