A group of Australian growers and wholesalers have decided to work towards changes to the country’s Horticultural Code in a bid to make prices fairer, media agency the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.

The story reported the growers went to Canberra to discuss the issue with wholesaler representative Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries, pushing for a trust fund and more clarity about how merchants operate.

“One of the big things we did achieve was sitting down with the Chamber (of Fruit and Vegetable Industries), because up until now, we’ve been at arms length for reasons known to nobody,” apple grower Peter Darley told the ABC.

“That was a big outcome and certainly, politicians respected that as well,” he was quoted as saying.
