Brazil: Fresh fruit exports soar at Port of Pecem
The Port of Pecem's role in Brazil's fruit export industry is growing, with produce movement between January and September 38% higher year-on-year. 
In total, 82,176 metric tons (MT) of fresh fruit moved through the port, based in the northeastern state of Ceará.
The most important fruit commodities were melon (39,600MT), mango (21,200) and watermelon (11,500MT).
The Ceará Port Integration Company (Cearaportos) reported the growing number of fresh fruit exports through the terminal was due to its excellent location, translating into shorter transit times to many key markets.
The port is one of the biggest in the state, and ships fresh fruit produced in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande del Norte, Bahía and Pernambuco.
The main destinations for fruit shipped from the port were the Netherlands (36%), U.S. (24%), U.K. (25%), and Spain (6%).
