Brazil: Fresh fruit exports soar at Port of Pecem
TheĀ Port of Pecem's role inĀ Brazil'sĀ fruit export industry is growing, with produceĀ movement between January andĀ September 38% higher year-on-year.Ā 
In total, 82,176 metric tons (MT) of fresh fruit moved through the port,Ā based in the northeastern stateĀ of CearĆ”.
The most important fruit commodities were melon (39,600MT), mango (21,200) and watermelon (11,500MT).
The CearĆ” Port Integration Company (Cearaportos) reported the growingĀ number of fresh fruit exports through the terminal was due to its excellent location, translating intoĀ shorter transit times to many key markets.
The portĀ is one of the biggest in the state, and shipsĀ fresh fruit produced in the states of CearĆ”, Rio Grande del Norte, BahĆa and Pernambuco.
The main destinations for fruit shipped from the port were the Netherlands (36%), U.S. (24%), U.K. (25%), and Spain (6%).
