Week 29 sees shifts in avocado trade with Peruvian shipments down 30%

In week 29, international avocado trade experienced notable shifts in volume, pricing, and market share by origin, according to intelligence firm Avobook.

U.S. avocado imports totaled over 1,600 containers and trucks, representing a 3% increase from the previous week. Mexico maintained its dominant position with 55% of the U.S. market share. California and Colombia saw significant increases of 25% and 31%, respectively. Conversely, Peru's shipments declined by 30%.



In Europe, volume reached 978 containers, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Peru continued to lead the market with an 81% share. South Africa and Colombia reported moderate adjustments.

For China, 57 containers arrived from Peru, with prices for medium-sized avocados improving but remaining below 2024 levels. Shipment trends continue to be intermittent, influencing the market pace.

Peru's exports in week 28 totaled 1,415 containers, down 3% from the previous week but up 35% year-over-year. Europe remains the primary importer, accounting for more than half of total shipments.
