U.S. avocado imports decline slightly in week 32 amid volume contraction

In its latest market report for week 32, Avobook reports a general decline in volume in the international avocado market—with notable exceptions.

In the United States, avocado imports dropped 8 percent week-over-week to a total of approximately 1,348 containers and trucks, representing a 5 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

Mexico continued to dominate the market with 59 percent of U.S. shipments, followed by Peru at 25 percent, California at 11 percent, and Colombia at 5 percent. Only Peru increased its exports, up 9 percent, while Mexico, California, and Colombia experienced declines.

Prices across most avocado sizes fell, with sizes 70 and larger experiencing decreases of up to 7 percent.

In Europe, a total of 912 containers arrived, a 9 percent drop from the previous week, but slightly higher than the same week last year. Peru maintained its leading position with an 81 percent market share, while Kenya and Tanzania both increased exports by 6 percent. In Rotterdam, price reductions were marginal—size 18 decreased by 4 percent, while size 32 experienced a 3 percent drop.

China received 62 containers from Peru, nearly 50 percent fewer than the previous week. Despite a 7 percent increase for sizes 18 through 24, prices remain 32 percent below 2024 levels.

Peru’s exports from the source totaled 948 containers, down almost a third week-over-week but up almost 40 percent year-over-year, with Europe accounting for a little over 60 percent of shipments.
