US avocado imports decline as European and Chinese markets see gains
US avocado arrivals totaled 1,516 containers last week, down two percent from the previous week and 12 percent below 2024 levels, according to intelligence company Avobook. In its week 36 report, the firm notes that Mexico remained the dominant supplier, accounting for 74 percent of volume, followed by Peru (12 percent), California (11 percent), and Colombia (3 percent).
In contrast, European avocado arrivals rose to 928 containers, marking a 20 percent week-on-week increase and a 43 percent rise year-on-year. Peru supplied approximately 75 percent of the volume, while prices for smaller sizes increased by up to 42 percent.
China received 34 containers, with Peru providing 94 percent and Chile six percent of the supply. Prices in the Chinese market increased by approximately 29 percent.
On the export side, Peru shipped 1,080 containers during week 35. This is up 79 percent compared to the same week in 2024. The vast majority of this volume (73 percent) was directed to Europe.
Chile exported 104 containers, a 51 percent increase from the prior week but still 35 percent below last year's levels.
