Planasa unveils the Black Yosemite: an extra-early blackberry for global markets

Spanish international fresh-produce supplier and fruit developer Planasa has unveiled its latest breakthrough: the Black Yosemite, a versatile primocane blackberry set to debut in Mexico.

According to Planasa, this quick-blooming, post-harvest-stable variety is also high-yielding, producing up to 15,000 boxes per hectare in the first year, with harvests possible just four months after planting.

The Black Yosemite also offers a shelf life of up to 14 days, supporting longer shipments to North America, Europe, and Asia.

Planasa notes that its shelf life and low regression mean growers can reduce harvesting to twice a week without risking over-ripening, helping to control operational costs.

Cajeme Argote, Planasa Mexico Sales Director, states that growers and the market have sought Black Yosemite’s characteristics for years.

“The mix of productivity, early market entry, and post-harvest stability allows growers to capture better price windows and improve their return on investment,” Argote adds.

The variety can also be cultivated at altitudes between 1,400 and 2,400 meters above sea level. Planasa aims to introduce Black Yosemite to additional markets and expand nationwide by leveraging its adaptability across various growing regions.
